Difference of Lateral Slit Technique in Incision
Anyone who thinks about having hair transplantation will primarily be interested in the answers to the questions «Will my hair transplant be noticable? Will I be able to brush my hair in the direction I want? Will its appearance be natural?»
One of many key factors of obtaining a natural appearance is the incision procedure. This procedure is the phase of opening the incisions in which the hair follicles taken from the donor area (the area of extraction, where hair density is high and loss characteristic is low) will be placed. In order to obtain a natural appearance after hair transplantation, the technique which enables incision by simulating the angle of the original hair direction, is lateral slit method. This way, the incisions are angled in accordance with the plantation area and hair growth directions. At the end of the procedure, the hair transplantation has a natural appearance, because the transplanted hair has an aesthetic stance and is suitable for the patient’s own hair. After the hair transplantation operation, patients can give any direction and shape to their trannsplanted hair as they desire, both during and after the growth period of hair. The incisions which are made through the natural direction of the hair, do not damage the existing follicles, tissues under the skin and capillary vessels, hence on a skin with no circulation deformation, recovery is fast, result is perfect.
The size and diameter of the incisions should be compatible with the grafts to be placed, the grafts placed in wide or narrow incisions will have nutritional problems which affects the quality of the operation. Since each graft is very valuable in hair transplantation, slits are used in sizes that are suitable for the grafts which were planned beforehand and extracted for providing the density appropriate for the need. When the Lateral Slit technique is applied, more incisions can be made for each unit surface, and by lowering the space between the hair follicles, more frequent plantation becomes possible. Since the grafts -which are placed into the incisions that were made suitable for the extracted hair follicles- do not pressure each other; adherence, healing and growth will be better and faster. Grafts which are fully settled into the incisions, do not create any deformation (a rough or pore appearance) on the skin surface.
The incision procedure, which is one of the most important factors of obtaining the most natural result in hair transplantation operations, requires the use of special materials, experience and professionalism. This procedure, which is directly affecting the result of the operation, is seen as a small section of the whole the operation process, but it is actually one of the most important fundamental steps in hair restoration.
